For many women, mascara is the one product we put on every time we leave the house. It’s easy to apply, and it can make us look so much more put together. Unfortunately, it’s also the one product that will make you look at best like you have two black eyes if it smudges or gets wet. Using a waterproof mascara can seriously mitigate the damage.
Aside from being way better for you and the environment, using organically-sourced waterproof mascara actually works. It’s entirely possible to find high quality, all natural mascara that leaves out the pesky, and sometimes hidden, chemicals that mass-marketed mascara often contains.
Ingredients like petroleum, synthetic-based solvents, parabens, and phthalates just don’t belong on your face – especially on your eyelashes, where makeup is likely to come into contact with your eyes’ mucous membranes (they’re delicate, so treat them kindly!) To keep it super safe, look for mascaras that contain at least 70% organic ingredients.

“Extensions without the extensions” is how Glossier markets their new mascara. This water-resistant mascara, or “Lash Slick,” won’t flake or smudge, but will lengthen, curl, and sculpt your lashes. The tapered comb brush applicator separates your lashes as it applies the mascara, preventing clumping and even application. This mascara is particularly great for sensitive eyes and contact wearers. It’s paraben free, hypoallergenic, non-irritating, and cruelty-free.

Tips for the Ultimate Mascara Application
- When you apply waterproof mascara, start with clean eyelashes.
- For best results, curl your lashes before applying mascara.
- Be sure the mascara wand is covered with mascara.
- Wipe excess mascara on the rim of the mascara tube or with a tissue. This will help create an even coat of mascara on your lashes.
- When you apply mascara, pay particular attention to the base of your eyelashes.
- For a more natural look, just pull the wand along your lashes, in the direction of their growth.
- For a doe-eyed look, zigzag the brush as you drag it along your lashes.
- Apply as many coats as you like, but make sure you check for clumps. Use an eyelash comb or brush to remove them.
- Make sure waterproof mascara is dry before exposing it to water.
