Angela Caglia got schooled in following your dreams while giving the legendary singer, actress and filmmaker a facial.
Celebrity aesthetician, Angela Caglia, had always wanted to start her own luxury organic beauty line ever since she got her start as a facialist over twenty years prior, but it wasn’t until she met Barbara Streisand that her dream became a reality.
Six years ago, LA-based Caglia was well-known around the celebrity circuit as the facialist with magic hands, soothing age lines away and giving that all-important Hollywood glow with a client list that read like a who’s who of Hollywood including Helena Christensen, Minnie Driver, Chrissy Teigen and even Sting. And then Barbra Streisand happened and the course of Caglia’s career and life changed, ultimately leading to launching her eponymously named eco-luxe skincare line eight months ago with her new husband as her business partner.
On a recent trip to Australia to launch her brand into Mecca, Caglia sat down with Vogue and shared the incredible story behind her brand.
What was the catalyst to starting your skincare brand, Angela Caglia?
“When I was working at Ole [Henriksen], I went to give Barbra Streisand a facial in her home. I was working on her for a two hour facial—the longest I’ve ever done—and I told her, when she did Yentl, I said, ‘You know, that had an impact on me, because I knew you were the first female writer, director, and star, producer, of a movie…That inspired me.’ And she said, ‘I was 40.’ And then she said, ‘How old are you?’ And I said, ‘40.’ And then she said, ‘Well, what’s your dream?’ And I was just making minimum wage working at the Ole Henriksen spa, being a facialist. And I said, ‘To have a skincare line.’ And when I left, I realised I was so empowered, so I started looking for a skincare lab.”
And that was six years ago, what happened next?
“Six years ago it wasn’t easy in terms of finding a USDA-certified organic lab. So, I finally found one a year later in Oregon and I opened my salon—I have a skin spa in LA—[and] I have been working on this product line for six years, which I launched eight months ago.”
“In Oregon, they have a flower that’s grown there as a rotation crop, and it’s so high in essential fatty acids, they derive cold press oil, called Meadowfoam seed oil [from it]. So, I was playing with it back in LA on my clients, and…I got this immediate resulting glow, and the skin was so soothed. So, I put this Meadowfoam seed oil in all of the products and that’s my pure ingredient, kind of my magic sauce.”

Your new husband, former Hollywood Producer, Rob Carliner is your business partner, how did that come about?
“I had just opened my spa when I met him and he was not happy with being an independent producer, he’s won many awards and he’s very successful, but he saw what I was doing, and he said, ‘Hmm. I think I’m going to go into business with you!’ And we formed our partnership three months after meeting, we fell in love, launched the brand together and we married two weeks ago in Paris.”
How are you finding working and living together?
“I love working with him. And it’s supportive. If he wasn’t here, this would just be me, and my work. It works. You know? His response to your question would be, ‘Who would I trust more to be in business with, than someone I love?’”
